UP Police Take Action: Arrest Made in Holi Harassment Case

Police in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, have swiftly responded to a disturbing viral video depicting a group of Holi revelers harassing a Muslim man and two women, resulting in the arrest of one individual and the detention of three minors.

The video, which circulated widely on social media, captured the distressing scene of a man and two women on a bike being surrounded by a group of youngsters. In the footage, the Holi celebrants can be seen spraying water on the women with a pipe, despite their protests. The harassment escalates as buckets are utilized to pour water on the women, with the perpetrators forcibly applying color on their faces.

Amidst the ordeal, a voice is heard justifying the actions as a “70-year-old tradition.” Eventually, the victims are allowed to leave as the revellers chant religious slogans while the bike speeds away.

Bijnor’s Police Chief Neeraj Kumar Jadaun swiftly directed local authorities to take action upon learning of the viral video. The investigation, conducted within the Dhampur police station area, led to the identification of the individuals involved.

Aniruddh, one of the suspects, has been apprehended by the police, while three juveniles have been detained in connection with the incident. A case has been registered under various sections of the law, including those related to wrongful restraint, causing hurt, and assaulting a woman.

In response to the disturbing incident, Senior Officer Neeraj Jadaun issued a video message urging the public to refrain from harassing others during Holi festivities. He emphasized the importance of respecting others’ boundaries and warned of consequences for those who violate the law.

The swift action taken by the Bijnor police underscores their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, particularly during festive occasions. As the investigation progresses, authorities continue to advocate for a culture of tolerance and respect within the community.

The arrest and detention serve as a stark reminder that acts of harassment and violence will not be tolerated, and perpetrators will be held accountable under the law.
